Alejandro de Humboldt National Park is a globally significant site for the conservation of terrestrial and freshwater biodiversity in Cuba. It is one of the most biologically diverse tropical ecosystems on an island anywhere on Earth. Today, it stands as one of the most important sites in the Western Hemisphere for its endemic flora. The park is part of the larger Cuchillas del Toa Biosphere Reserve. To protect its biodiversity, visitors must adhere to strict guidelines, such as staying on designated trails and not feeding animals. The crown jewel of the park is the endemic Polimita, unique on planet Earth.
